Many books have came out to help parents to become good parents or the very least to achieve that good-enough parenting level, in order to face the challenges of raising children.
One thing for sure though, nobody is perfect however a parent try, and it may just be a myth to strive to become a super or the ultimate parent to a child. Since we want our children to have the very best in life, even if we strive to be just enough parent there are things that we can do and attitudes to adopt that will make our children more than just average and at the same time make our lives fulfilling and easier at the same time.
The first thing to remember as a parent is that you are just human who will not be able to do everything, who will not be there at all times, who does not have knowledge of everything, and especially you can commit mistakes. Issues, problems and hang-ups are revolving parents too, but these can be met with the right attitude. You can strive to have the right attitude by being humble, by forgiving yourself for the mistakes you made, celebrating successes you have accomplished, learning from the past, and focusing your sight in the direction forward.
Parenting is not the whole component in raising children, and so it is a good guideline for you to recognize that you are only playing a percentage of this role. Parents have to realize that other outside factors would influence their children’s upbringing like friends, teachers, social media, internet, television, magazines and so on.
We should realize as parents that our children are not the only things that matter in our lives, and so when making decisions, the whole impact on the family as a whole is to be considered.
Another tip for parents is to look at the positives of their children and this means realizing that they can mistakes sometimes too. Forgiving them fast, correcting them gently and move on, and recognizing the things they did right than the wrong, are some parenting attitudes.
An important attitude for parents to make their children behave is to stick to their guns as the phrase goes, and this means believing in yourselves. Our children will sometimes challenge our decisions about them, and so in these instances, if it is what is right for them, do not be swayed and do not be hesitant to say no. It would happen that parents make bad decision, but being able to believe in yourself, making decisions and dealing with life’s adversities will give them good example.
